The Inspiring Journey of Dr Sandra Cabot McRae (MBBS, DRCOG) Integrative Doctor, Pilot, and Humanitarian
Dr Sandra McRae Cabot’s journey in medicine began with a strong foundation in conventional training, but her passion for holistic and preventative care soon set her apart.
After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 1975 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery, she began her career in obstetrics in Sydney. In the 1980s, she spent six months volunteering at a missionary hospital in Northern India, a transformative experience that deepened her commitment to accessible, integrative healthcare.
To support her clinical work, Dr Cabot began writing health books, starting with Women’s Health. Her writing quickly gained traction, and she went on to publish over 30 titles. Among them, The Liver Cleansing Diet became a standout success, winning the Australian People’s Choice Award in 1996 and being translated into multiple languages. The popularity of her books not only helped fund her medical practice but also enabled her to launch broader community health initiatives.
Dr Cabot’s interests extend beyond medicine. A licensed pilot since the 1980s, she has used her aviation skills to serve patients in remote areas, flying them to city hospitals through Angel Flights.
Her commitment to emergency care led her to acquire a medevac jet, specially equipped for critical missions across Australia and the Pacific. Her long-range Falcon 50 jet has transported both patients and donor organs, reflecting her dedication to life-saving service.
Sandra Cabot McRae MD is an integrative medical doctor, pilot, and author of many health books, including the award-winning Liver Cleansing Diet. She graduated with first class honours in Medicine and Surgery from Adelaide University in 1975 and has been practising for over 50 years. She founded the Liver Doctor website in 1996 — when the internet was still new — and continues to see patients, work alongside doctors and naturopaths, and host health seminars across Australia and the USA.
In the early 1990s, Dr Cabot was struck by the rapid rise in fatty liver and liver inflammation. She conducted a clinical study proving that dietary change and targeted supplementation reversed fatty liver in over 90% of participants within 8 weeks. She calls the liver “The General of the Army of the Body” — an organ performing hundreds of critical functions, and the only one capable of regenerating lost tissue, at roughly 70ml per day. As one patient, medical doctor Thomas Eanelli, put it: “Dr Cabot saved my life.”
Modern medicine excels at diagnosis and emergency care — but for chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and autoimmune conditions, it too often suppresses symptoms rather than addressing causes. Integrative medicine asks a different question: why are the cells sick? That shift in mindset is the difference between managing a disease and reversing it.
She has held a pilot’s licence since 1982, has flown nearly 200 Angel Flights in her Beechcraft Baron 58, and in 2017 acquired a Falcon 50 jet used for emergency medical retrievals and organ transport between cities.
We live in an era of unprecedented toxic load — air pollution, microplastics, pesticide residues, processed foods, and growing exposure to electromagnetic radiation. The liver is the body’s primary defence against all of it, yet most people are doing nothing to actively support it. Dr Cabot developed Livatone Plus to fill that gap: a single capsule combining clinically proven doses of Milk Thistle with activated B vitamins, NAC, glutathione, taurine, glycine, choline, selenium, zinc, and vitamins C and E. The formula is built around her clinical study results and decades of patient observation. For people with elevated liver enzymes or fatty liver, the results show up not just in how they feel — but in their blood tests.
Now in her mid-70s, Dr Cabot feels healthier than she did in her 40s — a testament to the integrative principles she has championed her whole career. Her goal remains the same as it has always been: to show people that most chronic diseases can be prevented or reversed, that their health is their greatest asset, and that there is always hope. The Liver Doctor team continues to offer a free health advisory service, responding to hundreds of enquiries daily from around the world.
