What is the difference between Livatone Plus and Livatone?

One size does not fit all when it comes to choosing a liver tonic. It is vital that your body’s individual needs be considered and catered for, so you can ensure your liver is properly supported. With that in mind, Dr Cabot has developed two different formulations of her LivaTone liver tonics – each is designed to support the specific needs of the person taking it. The use of a liver tonic will support your liver function.

Most liver formulas contain the herb St Mary’s Thistle, also known as Milk Thistle. Milk Thistle by itself may not be adequate to support optimal liver function or to reduce liver inflammation. Many liver formulas do not have enough silymarin, but even if they do, they do not contain all the other essential liver ingredients.

Livatone Plus contains the following ingredients:

  • Milk Thistle: The active ingredient in milk thistle- silymarin aids in the production and regeneration of healthy liver cells and helps to remove toxins from the liver. It has been used for over 2000 years in the treatment of liver disorders and has numerous clinical studies conducted on its effectiveness. Our formula contains a potent, therapeutic dose of milk thistle to allow you to reap the benefits. Many products on the market dilute their silymarin to make the product cheaper to make, but we use the pure, undiluted extract to improve is effectiveness.
  • Selenium: Helps to fight against free radical damage and to reduce inflammation in the body. It is required for the production of glutathione, which is the most powerful antioxidant in the body. Selenium supports and strengthens the detoxification pathways of the liver, and helps to fight viral infections such as hepatitis.
  • Taurine: The major amino acid required by the liver for the removal of toxic chemicals. It is needed for the manufacturing of bile acids, which aid in fat digestion and the excretion of cholesterol from the body. It also assists in liver detoxification for the removal of toxins.
  • Vitamin C: This antioxidants helps to scavenge free radicals in the body, and assists the liver in completing phase two detoxification. It helps to reduce toxic damage to liver cells from chemical overload. It also supports the immune system to fight off infections and to reduce inflammation.
  • B vitamins and folate:  This group of vitamins are required for methylation processes of the liver, which help to detoxify the liver from harmful toxins. They are also important for energy production, and supporting healthy nervous system function. The active form of folate (L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF) and vitamin B12 (methyl cobalamin) has been used in the formula for optimal absorption and utilization by the liver. Alcohol intake can cause deficiency of some B vitamins.
  • Zinc: zinc is required for cell growth and development and can aid in repairing and regenerating damaged liver cells. It has antioxidant properties and is vital for the cellular immune system, to fight off infections.
  • Green tea extract: Contains antioxidant properties to aid in detoxification and also help to prevent fat from depositing in the liver. It could also improve sugar metabolism, and aid in weight loss.
  • N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC): An amino acid that is also required for required for the production of glutathione to help neutralize toxins and strengthen detoxification pathways. NAC also helps to support the immune and respiratory system.

Clinical Evidence: Livatone Plus has been studied in a clinical trial and has been shown to have benefit in fatty liver disease.

Livatone Plus is helpful for the following conditions:

  • Liver support in those taking long term medications.
  • Alcohol induced fatty liver disease
  • Fatty Liver (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver or NAFLD)
  • To optimise liver function

Are there any drug Interactions with Livatone Plus?

The available evidence indicates that at commonly recommended doses, milk thistle does not act as a potent or moderate  inhibitor or inducer of CYP enzymes in the liver. These enzymes metabolise prescribed medications, thus Livatone Plus can be safely taken with most medications. Consult your doctor if you are taking prescribed medications though.

How is Livatone different to Livatone Plus?

While both formulas share the ingredient Milk Thistle Seed extract for liver support, Livatone Plus has a very different formula to Livatone and can be described as a more powerful formula for the liver.

Livatone Liver Tonic is the gentler formula and is comprised of herbal and vegetable extracts, such as Dandelion, Artichoke, and Peppermint extract, to name a few. Livatone Plus does not contain these ingredients.

Livatone Liver Tonic works very well with the liver cleansing diet to promote efficient fat metabolism and cleansing. It assists with bile production, helping improve digestion and gallbladder health. This comprehensive and unique formulation promotes efficient fat metabolism and cleansing and assists the liver in removing excess toxins and cholesterol from the body. Because Livatone is a gentle formula, it can be used by people of all ages, including children. This may be the formula for you if you’re wanting a gentle detox, gentle liver & gallbladder support, have a sluggish gallbladder and are trying to saves it or need digestive support.

Our Livatone Plus formula is the stronger formula and is comprised of essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are not present in Livatone Liver Tonic. Dr Cabot formulated Livatone Plus with all the necessary nutrients required for the phase two pathway to occur efficiently and effectively. It supports the liver to remove the toxins rapidly, to minimise harm.

Livatone Plus was designed for those with a poor functioning or damaged liver that requires extra support to assist in repairing damaged and dysfunctional liver cells. It is potent antioxidant formula to detoxify the body of toxins and waste products that could be contributing to disease and inflammation in the body. This may be the formula for you if have an underlying liver condition such as elevated liver enzymes, Fatty Liver, Hepatitis, or Fibrosis, a weak immune system, an autoimmune disease, or excess inflammation.

Additionally, if you no longer have a gallbladder, the Livatone Plus would also be of benefit to you as once your gallbladder is removed, this puts extra strain on the liver and will need extra support.

We have many customers who take both the Livatone Plus and Livatone Liver Tonic to reap the benefits of both formulas. With our world becoming increasingly toxic, the average person could benefit from a liver tonic as our bodies were not designed to cope with the number of chemicals we are all exposed to on a daily basis.

Benefits of taking Livatone-

Cleanses the gallbladder: Contains dandelion and artichoke to assist the gallbladder in contracting and releasing bile. Encouraging healthy bile flow helps to cleanse the gallbladder to keep it functioning optimally.

Liver support and repair: The active ingredient milk thistle may aid in the regeneration of healthy liver cells and supporting detoxification pathways. Taurine has been added to the formula as it is vital for the removal of toxic chemicals from the body, and strengthening liver function.

Reduced risk of gallstones: Livatone encourages healthy bile production from the liver and bile release from the gallbladder, which assists in keeping the bile ducts clear. This could help to reduce the formation of gallstones.

Digestive relief: Livatone contains peppermint which is excellent in helping to relieve indigestion, nausea and cramping. The combination of ingredients used in the formula, including psyllium, support healthy digestion and regular bowel movements.

Fat burning: The liver is the major fat burning organ, responsible for clearing out excess fat and cholesterol from the body. Livatone helps to support the liver to improve fat metabolism, and the milk thistle aids in clearing out fatty deposits from the liver.

Both formulas come in two different sizes, a 120 capsules count bottle as well as a 240 capsule count size. The 120 count is about a month supply and the 240 count is about a 2 month supply. To achieve optimal results with these products, we highly recommend implementing a lifestyle consisting of Dr Cabot’s vital principles:

  1. Consuming a diet primarily of whole foods, high quality proteins, produce, and healthy fats
  2. Aim to drink about half your body weight in filtered water in ounces – proper hydration ensures your liver filter will be a far more effective internal cleanser
  3. Getting some regular movement/exercise a few times a week – even a 20 minute walk is better then nothing!
  4. Minimize alcohol, ultra processed foods and refined carbohydrate intake – such as white pastas/breads, white flour, crackers, chips, and artificial sugary desserts
  5. Try to get about 30 minutes of  daily sunshine/outdoor time when possible – many studies have shown this does wonders for our mental health and wellbeing!
  6. Manage stress as best as possible – stress changes the way your liver metabolizes fat and sugar, and it also raises hormones that slow your metabolism
  7. Prioritize quality sleep, ideally 7-9 every night – lack of sleep spikes cortisol and hunger hormones
